Meta AI, one keystroke
from everything you do.
A lightweight desktop app that lives quietly on your Mac. Summon it with a shortcut, let it see the window you're working in, talk to it out loud, and connect it to the accounts you already use.
Free beta · Apple silicon · macOS 15 or later · ~16 MB
Four things a browser tab can't do
The beta is deliberately small. It focuses on the moments where being a real Mac app actually matters.
Summon with ⌥ Space
A global shortcut brings up a floating companion window over whatever app you're in - then gets out of the way when you're done.
Window screen sharing
Point it at a single window and ask about what's on screen. Context is scoped to the window you pick, not your whole desktop.
System-wide dictation
Speak instead of typing - in the app or anywhere text goes. Useful for long prompts, notes, and replies you'd rather not thumb out.
Deliberately lightweight
A small native binary for Apple silicon, not a wrapped web page. Fast cold start, low idle memory, quiet in the menu bar.
Main features of Meta AI for Mac
Everything in the beta, grouped by what you'd actually open it to do.
On the desktop
Native Mac app
Built specifically for Apple silicon, so it starts fast and behaves like a real desktop app rather than a wrapped web page.
Instant keyboard access
Press ⌥ Space to bring up Meta AI without leaving the application you're already working in.
Window sharing
Share a single open window so Meta AI can see what's displayed and answer questions about it.
Contextual assistance
Suggestions, summaries, explanations, and generated content that draw on the screen you've shared.
System-wide dictation
Dictate instead of typing, across the different Mac applications where you enter text.
Richer conversations
Support for more detailed, visually rich chat content than a plain text thread.
Lightweight installation
The initial beta download is roughly 16 MB - a quick install and a small footprint.
Social & content
Social media integrations
Connect Instagram and Facebook to look at reach, likes, shares, and saves in one place.
Content recommendations
Suggestions for what to publish next, based on how your existing posts have performed.
Recurring reports
Scheduled performance summaries - a weekly social roundup, for instance - generated on a cadence you set.
Work & productivity
Business productivity
Draft presentations, documents, and spreadsheets using material from your connected accounts and the web.
Google Workspace support
Work with information from connected Google Workspace services alongside everything else.
Connected to the accounts you
already work in
Link an account once and Meta AI can read context from it and draft into it, without you copying text between windows.
Draft captions, plan a posting run, and pull context from your own content.
Write and refine posts, replies, and Page updates from the desktop.
Google Workspace
Reference Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and Drive - then send the result straight back.
System requirements
How to use Meta AI Desktop on Mac
From compatibility check to your first shared window - seven steps, about five minutes.
Check compatibility
Before you download, make sure your setup meets all four:
- An Apple silicon Mac - M1 chip or newer
- macOS 15 or later
- An internet connection
- An existing Meta account
Download and install
- Visit the official Meta AI page.
- Select Download for Mac (Beta).
- Open the downloaded installer.
- Follow the instructions to install Meta AI.
- Launch the app and sign in with your Meta account.
Start a conversation
Type a question or instruction into the chat box. For example:
Open Meta AI quickly
Press ⌥ Space to display a compact Meta AI chat box over your current application - no window switching, no dock hunting.
Ask about an open window
Attach or select an open Mac window, then ask questions about what's visible. For example:
Use voice dictation
Activate the dictation shortcut, hold the assigned keys, and speak. Meta AI converts your voice into text inside applications such as Mail, Notes, and document editors.
Upload files
Attach images, PDFs, documents, or spreadsheets and ask Meta AI to analyze, compare, summarize, or rewrite them.
Instant mode
Quick answers, minimal wait - best for short questions and edits.
Thinking mode
More deliberate reasoning - best for complex or multi-part questions.
Questions people ask first
Does it work on an Intel Mac?
No. The beta is a native Apple silicon build and requires an M-series chip running macOS 15 or later. There's no Intel build announced.
Can it see my whole screen?
Screen context is scoped to a window you choose and share, rather than continuous capture of your desktop. macOS also gates screen recording behind its own permission prompt in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Can I change the ⌥ Space shortcut?
The default is Option-Space, which some other assistants and launchers also claim. If you already use that combination, remap one of them so they don't collide.
Is there a Windows version?
The dedicated desktop app launched on Mac first. Nothing has been committed publicly for Windows.
What does connecting an account actually allow?
Each integration is authorized separately and can be disconnected at any time. Before linking Instagram, Facebook, or Google Workspace, read the permission scopes on the consent screen - that screen, not this page, is the authoritative description of what's shared.
Put it on your Mac
